Northwest Academy offers academic and therapeutic programming for students from your districts who, for a variety of reasons, have not been able to experience success in other school settings. We are licensed by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to provide Special Education services to students kindergarten to grade 12 and beyond and ages five through 21. Our campuses are located in Addison and Streamwood, Illinois. We meet and exceed all ISBE standards in a friendly and diverse learning environment. We have developed specialized programming over time that is designed to meet the needs of those students whose issues are centered on social-emotional, behavioral, and psychiatric disorders. While we specialize in students with a Primary Eligibility of Emotional Disturbance we serve students with all other eligibilities as well. Our teaching staff consists of cross-categorical Special Education Teachers most of whom hold the LBS-I Certificate. Our therapeutic support staff consists of Psychologists, Counselors, Social Workers, and Nurses licensed by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation.

We are able to meet the needs of your most complex and challenging Special Education students. Our in-house multi-disciplinary education and treatment team can work with outside agencies and providers of medical, psychiatric, and psychological services. We often work with court services to insure treatment follow through and student safety. We are an “actively involved” service team that will reach out to families, guardians, service providers, and school district personnel to insure service delivery as defined by the IEP and follow through by all parties. Our educational and therapeutic staff will assume responsibility for documenting and gathering information for the IEP and will have most ISBE IEP forms completed prior to your attending a meeting. We recognize the demands placed on school district personnel and make every effort to facilitate the placement, evaluation, and documentation process for an IEP.
Our therapeutic program recognizes the complex nature of emotional problems experienced by special education students. Our basic therapeutic model addresses developmental deficits, the impacts of neglect and trauma, and the importance of individualized programming. We are able to integrate consultation with medical providers and delivery of medication into a student’s plan. All of our interventions with students are non-punitive. While we are able to provide for student safety with physical intervention if needed, we do so on a very limited basis and only in cases of actual threat of harm to self or others. Every member of our staff is trained and certified in non-violent physical intervention as developed by the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI).
Please feel to contact any of our facility Directors with specific questions that you might have about our program. Inquiries about placement should be addressed to the facility Directors at our Addison and Streamwood campuses. |
